Hiking The Grand Canyon


Hiking in the Grand Canyon is allowed all year round .

Permits are required for all overnight hiking and camping in Grand Canyon .

Permits are not required for day hiking , all though it is strongly recommend you go on a professionally guided hike to get the best experience possible from your hike , for free information on guided hikes see Grand Canyon Trail Guides. To not have all the problems of trying to obtain your permits yourself for your over night hikes we suggest going on guided hikes.

Permits must be obtained prior to you entering the canyon from the Back Country Office, and should be obtained as far in advance as possible because of the limited numbers of permits . Permits are issued on a first come / first serve basis . Fees for permits are $20.00 ea. plus $4.00 per person per night impact fee (subject to change). Permit request are not accepted by E-mail or phone, in person, by mail or by fax only at this time.
